Your suspenders are here—is that not a reason to celebrate? But to show them off right away, there's one thing you need to keep in mind: attaching them correctly to your trousers. Whether you're a pro or a beginner, our men's suspenders offer a variety of ways to wear them. For newbies, we want to help you attach your suspenders to your trousers with perfection.
The agony of choice: loops or clips?
There are basically two ways to attach suspenders to trousers: either with clips or loops, which need to be attached to the buttons on the trousers. So far, so good. If you decide to attach your suspenders to buttons, you'll obviously need to make sure that there are buttons on the inside of the trousers.
So one of the following three mounting scenarios applies to you:
1. Attach suspenders with clips
All the suspenders we sell at Hosenträgerplatz (except for a few exclusive Albert Thurston suspenders) come with clips AND a leather loop. Attaching the suspenders with clips is therefore always possible and incredibly easy. Simply remove the leather loop and start clipping. This video shows you how.
2. Attach suspenders with loops, because your trousers have buttons
Attaching suspenders to buttons looks particularly elegant. Since the buttons are already spaced at the correct distance, all you have to do is remove the clip, attach the suspenders to the buttons, adjust the length (the elastic at the back ensures the perfect fit), and voilà.

Important for real dandies: Since suspenders and belts don't mix, make sure that your trousers don't have belt loops when you buy them.
3. Your trousers do not yet have buttons to attach your suspenders
Are there no buttons on your trousers and your tailor isn't sure what to do? We're happy to advise you on the correct button placement and spacing. Most of our suspenders come with buttons included. Otherwise, we recommend using buttons with a diameter of 1.5 centimeters. Finally, you'll find an overview of the correct button spacing on the inside of the trousers below. Attaching the suspenders to the buttons should be no problem – now you or your tailor can get to work with needle and thread.
Attach buttons to the inside or outside of the waistband
Before you start attaching the buttons, however, there is one more question: Where should the buttons actually be attached?
Whether on the inside or outside of the trousers, both are possible. Originally, the buttons were attached on the outside. The most common method is to attach the buttons on the inside of the trousers.
Currently, however, we're seeing a revived trend of attaching suspenders to the outside of trousers. And not without reason (see photo).
