Your braces are here - if that's not a reason to be happy. But so that you can show them off straight away, there is one thing to consider: attaching the braces to your trousers correctly. Whether you're a professional or a beginner, our men's braces offer a variety of ways to wear them. But we have something very special for newbies: since no dandy has ever fallen from the sky, we want to help you attach your braces to your trousers perfectly.
There are basically two ways to attach suspenders to your trousers: either with clips or loops that have to be attached to the buttons on your trousers. So far, so good. If you decide to attach your suspenders to buttons, you must of course ensure that there are buttons on the inside of your trousers.
So one of the following three mounting scenarios applies to you:
All the braces we sell at Hosenträgerplatz (except for a few exclusive Albert Thurston braces) come with clips AND a leather loop. Attaching the braces with clips is therefore always possible and very easy. Simply remove the leather loop and start clipping. In this video you can see how.
Attaching suspenders to buttons looks particularly elegant. Since the buttons have already been attached at the correct distance, all you have to do is remove the clip, attach the suspenders to the buttons, adjust the length (the elastic part at the back ensures the perfect fit) and voilá. In our video you can see the gentlemanly end result.
Important for real dandies: Since suspenders and belts do not mix, make sure that your trousers do not have belt loops when you buy them.
Are there no buttons on your trousers and your tailor doesn't know what to do? We'll be happy to give you information about the correct placement and spacing of the buttons. Most of our suspenders already have buttons included. Otherwise, we recommend using buttons with a diameter of 1.5 centimeters. Finally, you'll find an overview of the correct button spacing on the inside of the trousers below. Attaching the suspenders to the buttons should no longer be a problem - now you or your tailor can get to work with needle and thread.
Before you start attaching the buttons, however, there is one more question: Where should the buttons actually be attached?
Whether inside or outside of the pants, both are possible. Originally, the buttons were attached to the outside. The most commonly used method is to attach the buttons to the inside of the pants.
At the moment, however, we are seeing a revived trend of attaching suspenders to the outside of trousers. And this is not without reason (see photo).
Good luck finding or attaching your suspenders,
